(196) pp.; portr., 44 very fine chromolithographed plates, 4 of which are larger, folded plates (NOT handcoloured like the earlier vols.) and accompanying text and text figs. The plants (plates and descriptions are numbered NS (New Series) 1-44. Green cloth with gilt title on spine. The flowers are often extremely beautiful. * Curtis's Botanical Magazine is an illustrated publication which began in 1787. The longest running botanical magazine, it is widely referred to by the name Curtis's Botanical Magazine. Each of the issues contains a description, in formal yet accessible language, and is renowned for featuring the work of two centuries of botanical illustrators. Many plants received their first publication on the pages, and the description given was enhanced by the keenly detailed illustrations. William Bertram Turrill (1890 – 1961) was an English botanist. He worked in the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew and was responsible for many innovations including a mathematical classification of leaf shapes.
