Bishū Fujimigahara (尾州不二見原) from the series "Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji" - Katsushika Hokusai (葛饰北斋,1760 - 1849) - Japon (Sans prix de réserve)

Title: Bishū Fujimigahara (尾州不二見原) from the series "Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji" Technique: Woodblock Print (木版画) Artist's Signature: Present on the print Paper Size: 27.2 × 41 cm (10.7 × 16.1 in) Paper Material: Washi (和紙) Supervised by: Takamizawa Tadao (高見沢忠雄) Published by: Takamizawa Print (高見沢版画院,Japan) This beautiful ukiyo-e print is Bishū Fujimigahara—a work from Katsushika Hokusai’s iconic Fugaku Sanjūrokkei (富岳三十六景,Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji) series. With its refined composition and evocative mood, it stands as a quintessential example of ukiyo-e art. It was reprinted by Japan’s Takamizawa Print around the 1960s–1970s. In the scene, a craftsman works intently inside a large wooden barrel, with tools and materials scattered around him. His kneeling posture while laboring fully captures the warmth of everyday urban life. In the distant background, Mount Fuji looms faintly along the horizon—creating a striking visual contrast between the grand natural landscape and the ordinary human toil in the foreground. This "finding grandeur in the mundane" composition is Hokusai’s signature approach to depicting Mount Fuji: he weaves the eternal, majestic natural scenery with the intimate, human act of work, highlighting Fuji’s timeless beauty while letting viewers connect with the simplicity and authenticity of urban life. As a legendary master of ukiyo-e, Hokusai had a distinct creative style that exerted a profound influence on the evolution of subsequent art. Due to the passage of time, the print paper shows slight signs of oxidation-induced yellowing and similar minor traces. The overall condition remains good. - The picture is part of the description. The color of the item may be slightly different from the picture (due to camera and screen settings). - The successful bidder will be responsible for any customs duties and taxes (if applicable). - This item will be mailed by the postal service of Taiwan in the form of airmail with insurance attached.
