Sheaffer Intrigue Blue Whale Shark set Ballpoint + Fountain pen 14K/585 M-Nib + Pen Case The Intrigue series by Sheaffer was introduced around the year 2000 and discontinued in the year 2004. The Intrigue was a new design and a technical innovation for Sheaffer, very bold and successful. It was at the time the most intriguing pen in many years. Its uniqueness is due to a combination of design features that are skillfully brought together. The lines of the Intrigue are smooth, with rounded forms, slanted transitions, without sharp corners or strict rectangles in the design. The body has a matte brushed chrome/silver finish combined with a blue/gray motif of small dots or spots (stenciled dots) often described as “patterned blue whale shark”. The pattern is subtle not high-gloss, but rather like an etched or decorated surface with contrast between the matte metal parts and the decorated sections. “SHEAFFER USA” is engraved on the body. The well-known Sheaffer emblem (the white dot) is located on the shiny metal clip of the pen. The cap is also in matte brushed chrome/silver finish without the pattern, which means the decoration is mainly on the body of the pen. Inlaid 14K/585 solid white gold M-nib with palladium-plated overlay stamped "SHEAFFER 14K 585." Ballpoint pen with a twist mechanism, never used, and equipped with a placed functional Sheaffer ink refill (due to good preservation, it has not dried out!). Refills for this ballpoint pen are easily obtainable online or at premium pen stores. I am also including, as a reserve, an additional new original Sheaffer ballpoint pen refill! The fountain pen has been inked at some point! Inked pens have only been briefly used by me, as a collector, and by no one else! The pen has been thoroughly cleaned with demineralized water after use. This pen is still as good as new, both cosmetically and technically. The Intrigue features a high-tech mechanism that combines the 14K/585 inlaid nib with modern styling and finishes. It has an unusually patented filling system that can use Sheaffer cartridges or work as an integrated piston filler thanks to its exclusive and unique converter specially designed for the Intrigue editions. This unique converter is placed in a "drawer" that slides out from the inside of the pen. When the "drawer" is closed, the converter is automatically linked to the filling button to function as a piston filling mechanism. This way, the new filling mechanism of this Sheaffer can be operated as a piston mechanism or as a cartridge fountain pen. All of this is clearly demonstrated and described in the attached manual.
