Théière - Plaqué(e) argent - Edwardian 1880–1910
This is an elegant English silver-plated coffee pot dating from the late Victorian to early Edwardian period, approximately 1880–1910. The pot is richly decorated with hand-engraved foliate motifs on all sides, including fern-like scrolls and stylised palmettes, forming a symmetrical cartouche with an original monogram. The body rests on an ornate cast stand with four decorative legs, each shaped with scrolls and leaf forms typical of high-quality plateware from this era.
The pot has a graceful baluster form with a long curved spout and an elaborately shaped handle. The lid is fitted with its original finial, likely made of bone or early synthetic material, and opens smoothly on its hinge. The piece displays detailed craftsmanship, particularly in the engraving and the sculptural feet, which add both stability and decorative character.
The silver plate remains bright, though signs of age and use are visible, including fine surface marks, slight wear in some engraved areas and expected patination inside the pot. These features are consistent with antique electroplate of this period and do not affect structural integrity. The piece stands securely and retains its original proportions and aesthetic presence.
This is a refined example of late 19th- to early 20th-century English silver plate, decorative and collectible, suitable for display or continued use.
