This beautiful wall mask by Cortendorf dates from the style-defining 1950s and 60s. It was designed by Albert Strunz. It depicts a female head in profile, wearing a headband. The skin tone and the headband are matte black with red lips, and the hair itself is turquoise blue.
The Cortendorf Manufactory was founded in 1890 by Julius Griesbach in Coburg-Cortendorf. In addition to decorative ceramics, they also offered a wide selection of figurative ceramics. Sculptor and modeler Albert Strunz introduced new design elements starting in 1954, including the well-known wall masks, which he launched in 1958. The range of wall masks expanded steadily in the following years. In 1973, the manufactory was acquired by the W. Goebel Porcelain Factory in Rödental.
Patina and signs of wear are present and attest to the originality of the wall mask.
