Égypte ancienne, période tardive Faience Amulet - 28 mm

Bes Amulet In ancient Egypt, several protective deities were depicted as dwarves featuring a lion's mane, ears, and tail, and often wearing a plumed headdress. Such gods are now referred to as the Bes-image. The domain of the Bes image was the household. He averted evil with music, knives, or the sa sign as he watched over the occupants of the house. He was particularly protective of women and children, and over time this responsibility gave him a role in some temples when there was a birth house for the deity. Thus, the Bes image was a popular amulet. This amulet depicts Bes’s head wearing a tall feather headdress. He has his usual round face with beard and little eyes. A horizontal hole for suspension is drilled at the base of the headdress. Provenance: Purchased by the current owner to an English gallery (M.A.C.; 1990s). The Supplier warrants that he obtained this lot legally. Provenance statement seen by Catawiki. Important information. The seller guarantees that he is entitled to ship this lot. The seller will take care that any necessary permits will be arranged. The seller will inform the buyer about this if this takes more than a few days.
