Epée - Wakizashi - Shirasaya with Silver Habaki (32g) and Storage Bag - Japon - Période Edo (1600–1868)

【Important notes】 ・The duration to secure an export permit might extend up to a month. ・AUSTRIA, BELGIUM, and the UNITED KINGDOM prohibit the import of swords, so please refrain from bidding. ・Japanese swords can be shipped to the UNITED STATES, GERMANY, FRANCE, and POLAND via Japan Post's EMS (airmail) service. For other countries, sword shipments will be sent via Japan Post’s Sea mail, which may take 3 to 4 months for delivery. ・Please be informed that the original registration document is required to be returned to official authorities, so a copy will be provided with the sword. ・Please note that import regulations in each country may change without notice, resulting in sudden import bans. In such cases, cancellations will occur, and we appreciate your understanding in advance. ・International buyers are responsible for any import duties, taxes, and charges not included in the item price or shipping cost. Please note that VAT paid to Catawiki is separate from and does not cover import duties or customs charges in your country. You may still be required to pay additional fees upon delivery, as determined by your local customs authorities. We strongly recommend checking with your country's customs office to determine these additional costs before bidding or buying. Prompt payment of these fees ensures timely delivery. ・Considering the diligence required for export permit procedures, we'd like to emphasize the importance of commitment after purchase. If the auction is annulled post-confirmation, there's a need to retract the said permit. In such situations, to cover administrative efforts, a fee equating to 10% of the auction's final amount would be requested via PayPal. ・Damage and Issues: If you receive a damaged item, please contact us immediately before leaving a negative review. We kindly ask for your patience and the opportunity to rectify the issue. The damage must be reported to your local post office within 7 days of delivery, and promptly to us and Catawiki support. 【Product details】 This is an Edo period wakizashi housed in a plain wooden shirasaya, traditionally used to preserve and protect the blade. The habaki is made of silver and weighs 32 grams, adding refinement to the mounting. The blade surface shows visible forging patterns, which are not only a testament to the smith’s skill but also symbolise strength and resilience, qualities deeply admired in samurai culture. The sword comes with a copy of its Firearms and Swords Registration Certificate, issued in Tochigi Prefecture under number 34651 on 27 September 1973 (Shōwa 48), as the original will be returned to the authorities. The certificate records the blade as a wakizashi measuring 54.2 cm in length with a curvature of 0.3 cm, unsigned, with one mekugi-ana. The blade has a small scratch along the shinogi-suji (ridge line) and a few minor forging openings (kitae-ware) in the shinogi-ji. The habaki shows patina. The scabbard has small scratches and discolouration. The storage bag shows a prominent and noticeable stain. Please refer to the photographs for the detailed condition. The stand is not included. Total length of the blade: 67.7 cm Total length including scabbard: 79 cm ・Please make sure to review all the provided information and images before placing your bid. ・We make every effort to accurately represent the product's colors and textures in our photos. However, due to differences in monitors and device displays, as well as photographic conditions, slight color variations between the photos and the actual product may occur. We ask for your understanding in advance. Thank you for your interest, and happy bidding!
