Hōsen-in (宝泉院) - Ido Masao 井堂雅夫 (1945-2016) - Japán (Nincs minimálár)

Item Description: This exquisite woodblock print by Masao Ido (井堂正雄) depicts a serene winter scene at Hōsen-in (宝泉院), a temple located in the Rakuhoku (northern) area of Kyoto. Part of Ido’s acclaimed “One Hundred Views of Kyoto” (京都百景) series, this piece captures the snow-covered temple garden through a traditional Japanese room. A camellia plant with vibrant red blossoms stands in the foreground, offering a vivid contrast to the calm, white landscape outside. The bamboo grove blanketed in snow adds depth and tranquility, reflecting Ido’s signature style that harmonizes nature, architecture, and seasonality. A stunning example of modern Japanese woodblock artistry. Artist's Comment: Hōsen-in Passing through Sanzen-in's mountain gate, crossing a small bridge, and proceeding further inward, one finds Hōsen-in, surrounded by trees. The study features two contrasting gardens. In single, a majestic five-needle pine, boasting a lifespan of over six hundred years and shaped like Omi Fuji, displays its imposing form. The other garden showcases a splendid bamboo grove beyond the hedges, which serve as borrowed scenery. I chose the bamboo grove garden, well-suited to the winter season, as the subject of my work. The snowy landscape viewed from inside the study is exceptionally gentle. The red felt rug in the study accentuates the snow-covered garden. I felt compelled to arrange a red winter camellia in the empty space at the foreground. Size: Approximately 36 cm × 26 cm Artist Profile: Masao Ido (1945–2016) was a celebrated Japanese printmaker known for his atmospheric landscapes and mastery of the traditional woodblock technique. Based in Kyoto, Ido created scenes that reflect the quiet beauty of Japanese temples, gardens, and seasons. His work is closely associated with the shin-hanga and sosaku-hanga traditions, blending precision with personal expression. Ido’s prints are widely collected around the world and remain enduring representations of Japan’s cultural and natural heritage. **PLEASE NOTE** Shipping Information: Items are shipped from Japan.
