16th/17th Century Carved Wooden Christ Child – Southern Europe – 38.5 cm A charming and early carved Christ Child (Infant Jesus), likely Southern European (Spain / Italy), dating to the late 16th – early 17th century. Carved in solid wood The figure stands in a devotional pose on a beautifully preserved gilt wooden base with stepped profile. The Child’s facial expression is warm and serene, with detailed curly hair and softly modelled features typical for Counter-Reformation devotional sculpture. Arms are now missing, as often seen in early cult figures.. A historically evocative piece with strong presence and excellent devotional character.
