Noh maszk - Kerémia - Kézműves kulturális örökség: Iwami kagura maszk (Nincs minimálár)
impressive oni mask from the iwami kagura tradition (intangible cultural heritage)
unlike nō masks or festival masks, iwami kagura masks are created specifically for dynamic stage performance and are known for their dramatic three-dimensional modelling and overwhelming presence.
characteristics
1. exaggerated facial expression
iwami kagura is danced with fast, powerful movements. for this reason, each facial feature is intentionally enlarged so the expression remains visible even from a distance.
typical exaggerated elements include:
strongly raised and sculpted eyebrows
enlarged nose
wide, gaping mouth
prominently carved fangs
these features are essential to iwami kagura’s “oni” style, distinct from conventional hannya masks.
dramatic fangs and open mouth
the essence of iwami kagura’s oni is raw power and ferocity. therefore, masks often display:
long upward-curving fangs
protruding lower fangs
irregular tooth lines
such elements are rarely seen in nō masks but are iconic in iwami kagura’s ō-oni (great demon) and arajingi styles.
type: ō-oni / arajin (fierce deity)
typical identifying features:
two long horns
fangs extending forward
large, wide-open mouth
elongated vertical face shape
this style is used in kagura performances featuring demons, fierce gods, or subordinate oni in the famous “yamata-no-orochi” story.
