Signed Okamoto Taro (1911–1996)
Tarō Okamoto (1911–1996) was a pioneering Japanese avant-garde artist known for his bold, explosive style.
He studied in Paris in the 1930s, absorbing Surrealism and modernist theory before returning to Japan.
His works spanned painting, sculpture, public art, and theory, always challenging conventional aesthetics.
His iconic piece Tower of the Sun became a symbol of postwar Japanese creativity and dynamism.
Okamoto is celebrated for transforming Japanese modern art with his philosophy “Art is explosion.”
