Signed, Pablo Neruda - Ať procitne dřevorubec - 1950

Pablo Neruda – Let the Woodcutter Awaken rare copy signed by the author I´m offering an exceptionally valuable copy of Let the Woodcutter Awaken, one of the key parts of Pablo Neruda’s monumental poetic work Canto General. This volume bears the authentic signature of Pablo Neruda, the Chilean poet and Nobel Prize laureate in Literature (1971). Signed copies of this work are exceedingly rare on the market. Born Ricardo Eliécer Neftalí Reyes Basoalto, Neruda adopted his pen name in honor of the Czech poet Jan Neruda—both as a tribute and as a way to conceal his early literary activity from his father. In doing so, he created a lasting link between Latin American and Czech literary traditions. The Czech translation was prepared by Jan Pilař and published by Československý spisovatel in 1950. Condition: The cover is slightly worn, some pages are loose, but overall the book is in good condition. This edition is also remarkable for its artistic design: the interior features woodcuts by Mexican artist Alberto Beltrán, while the cover uses a woodcut by Leopoldo Méndez, another prominent member of the Mexican art collective Taller de Gráfica Popular. Their expressive prints beautifully complement Neruda’s call for awakening, freedom, and solidarity. The work itself is both a poetic and political manifesto—an ode to labor, nature, and human dignity. Neruda intertwines history, mythology, and the landscape of Latin America into a powerful, visionary statement about the resilience of humankind and its struggle against oppression. Condition: slight damage to the spine of the dust jacket, pages partially loosened, otherwise in overall very good condition, consistent with the book’s age. See attached photographs for details. This copy represents a unique connection of world poetry, visual art, and Czech cultural heritage—not only through its literary and artistic value but also through the author’s very name, which carries the legacy of our own Jan Neruda.
