A very RARE and beautiful book...."Florence & some Tuscan Cities" Painted by Colonel R. C. Goff, described by Clarissa Goff. Book in very good condition, inside illustrations complete with all speaking tissue guards, text age toned but very clean, frontis with a tiny repair with blank tape on upper margin, externally original highly decorated cloth with light wear around edges and corners, shelfwear,spine with light loss on head-see photos. In this attractive travelogue, Clarissa Goff interweaves her own impressions of Tuscany with facts and legends about the region. With seventy five colour plates by the author's husband, Robert Charles Goff, collated and complete. Robert Goff was a printmaker and painter who specialised in topographical scenes, and in this work, Clarissa uses her husband's paintings to springboard into her descriptions of Tuscan architecture, painting, and culture. The couple moved to a villa overlooking Florence in the 1890s, and wanted to provide a guide for those visiting the region.
