Nel IIIᵉ secolo a.C., Cartagine era una grande potenza marittima e commerciale che dominava l’ovest del Mediterraneo. Affrontò Roma nelle Prime e Seconda Guerre Puniche, segnate da battaglie importanti come Écnome o Trasimene. Questo periodo vide l’ascesa di Hamilcar e poi di Annibale, che portò la guerra fino in Italia.

In the 3rd century BC, Carthage was a major maritime and commercial power, dominating the western Mediterranean. It clashed with Rome in the First and Second Punic Wars, marked by major battles such as Ecnomo and Lake Trasimene. This period saw the rise of Hamilcar and then Hannibal, who carried the war into Italy.
