Descrizione del venditore

Antique Dutch cutlery with silver handles in a chagrin holder.

This type of late 17th or early 18th century cutlery was usually used at home but also on visits.

The cast silver top of the fork is beautifully decorated by a depiction of Saint george and the dragon.
It has an indistinct makersmark probably VE or VL (?)

The knife has also a cast silver top with lady Justitia with a sword and a device to weigh goods refeering to Libra.
This part bears the initials of a former owner K.T. is hallmarked with a town mark of Amsterdam (cross of Andreas) and a makersmark. The blade of the knife is of forged iron.

A third small part in the holder - probably a tooth pic (?) is missing. The chagrin holder has silver fittings without hallmarks.

Both fork and knife fit into the holder but its hard to say if they belong to each other. There are some differences in style. The set comes from an old colelction of a sophisticated collector of antiques.
