Original Etching by Paul Neagu

Offered for auction is an original etching by the important Romanian-born British artist Paul Neagu, signed in pencil by the artist and numbered 1/20, from a small limited edition.

The composition presents a stylized human form rendered through expressive etched lines and layered tonal textures. The figure appears partially abstracted, positioned between representation and structure, a characteristic approach in Paul Neagu’s work where the human body becomes a system of energy, movement and internal architecture rather than a purely anatomical study.

The dense network of etched lines, cross-hatching and plate tone creates a strong sense of depth and vibration, giving the figure a dynamic and almost sculptural presence on paper. The work can be interpreted as a study of structure, balance and transformation — recurring themes in Neagu’s artistic research.

This type of composition is closely related to Neagu’s conceptual work around the human body as a generative structure, part of his wider artistic investigations into the relationship between body, space and energy.

Dimensions:
• Sheet size: 21 × 30 cm
• Framed size: 24 × 33 cm

The work is signed in pencil by the artist and numbered 1/20, and also bears the “Generative Arts – Paul Neagu” studio stamp.

The artwork is presented framed and in good overall condition.

About the Artist

Paul Neagu (1938–2004) was a Romanian-born artist who later settled in the United Kingdom, where he became an important figure in post-war British contemporary art. He worked across drawing, printmaking, sculpture and performance.

He is best known for his conceptual series such as Anthropocosmos and Hyphen, where the human body is treated as a structural and symbolic system representing energy, movement and connection between different planes of existence.

His works are held in major museum collections including Tate Gallery (London), and he represented Romania at the Venice Biennale. Today, Paul Neagu is considered one of the most important Romanian artists of the late 20th century.
