About the work Head 38B belongs to Moschetta's ongoing Head series — an investigation into the archaeology of identity through layered surfaces. The profile, drawn from the classical tradition of Renaissance medals and antique sculpture, is fractured and rebuilt across strata of acrylic paint, chemical transfers, spray, stencil and collage. The palette here is denser and more vegetal than previous works in the series: oxidised greens push against rust and deep ochre, while the black ground creates an almost nocturnal atmosphere. The chemical transfer process embeds fragments of the printed world — text residue, graphic matter — into the painted surface, making the work simultaneously excavation and construction. The canvas texture reads through every layer, lending the surface a tactile, almost archaeological quality visible in reproduction. In person, the relief and material depth are considerably more pronounced.
