A fine and substantial English sterling silver cigarette case, crafted by the renowned Birmingham silversmith Henry Matthews & Sons Ltd (HE&S).
The case features an elegant engine-turned decoration on both exterior panels, framed by a refined geometric border. The interior retains its original gilt (gold-washed) finish, a desirable feature that provided additional protection against oxidation and enhanced the luxurious character of the piece.
The case is fully hallmarked and bears a complete set of British assay marks:
* Maker’s mark: HE&S (Henry Matthews & Sons Ltd)
* Anchor: Birmingham Assay Office
* Lion Passant: Sterling Silver (.925)
* Date Letter: “O”
* Pattern/Model Number: 58
The hallmarks are clearly struck and present on the interior.
