Shukaku 収穫(しゅうかく)|Kuroyanagi Masataka 黒柳正孝(くろやなぎまさたか)

This work, titled "Shukaku", is created using copperplate printing, an intaglio technique known as mezzotint (manière noire). The artist, Masataka Kuroyanagi, pursues the moment when endless depth is born from a flat black surface, describing it as "a formal expression standing still in the light that shines into the darkness". The work depicts the contrasting textures of cloth and vegetables. Rather than depicting natural scenery as it is, the insertion of light or geometric structures is reconstructed within the screen.
