Hans Hinterreiter (1902-1989) was a Swiss painter, graphic artist, and color theorist. Born in Winterthur, Switzerland, he initially studied architecture at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich. However, he soon turned his focus to art and color theory.
Hinterreiter is best known for his geometric abstract paintings and his extensive research on color harmonies. He developed a unique systematic approach to color and form, which he called "Constructive Conceptual Art." This system was based on mathematical principles and aimed to create harmonious compositions.
Throughout his career, Hinterreiter created numerous paintings, prints, and theoretical writings. His work was influenced by the concrete art movement and the teachings of Johannes Itten. Hinterreiter's art is characterized by precise geometric shapes, vibrant colors, and a sense of rhythm and balance.
Although he remained relatively unknown during his lifetime, Hinterreiter's contributions to abstract art and color theory have gained recognition in recent years. His works are now part of several museum collections, including the Kunsthaus Zürich and the Museum of Concrete Art in Ingolstadt, Germany.
