Holroyd was an important engraver of the British school, trained under Alphonse Legros. He was also the first curator of the Tate Gallery and director of the National Gallery in London. His aesthetic represents an academic, realistic approach, deeply influenced by the Italian Renaissance. This etching is part of prominent international collections, such as those of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Museum of Fine Arts in Łodzi in Poland.
