Balance #3
Sonny Insinna
Balance #3 is part of a sculptural series that explores the fragile and precarious balance between human beings, animals, and the world we inhabit.
The lion, traditionally associated with strength, power, and authority, is placed in an unexpectedly vulnerable position: standing on a fragile sphere. The sphere becomes a symbolic representation of our planet, beautiful but unstable, marked by golden cracks.
The contrast is deliberate. The apparent strength of the animal is confronted with the fragility of the ground beneath it. Even the most powerful creature can lose its stability when the foundations of its world begin to break apart.
The 24-karat gold leaf applied to the cracks recalls the Japanese art of Kintsugi: what is broken is not hidden, but emphasized and transformed into something new. Here, however, the golden fractures carry a warning. They represent the wounds we are creating in our planet and the increasingly precarious balance on which every living being depends.
The burnt wooden base reinforces this idea. Wood, a symbol of nature and life, is deliberately transformed by fire, becoming dark, scarred, and fragile. It becomes the foundation on which the entire sculpture precariously rests.
With Balance #3, I want to question the idea of strength itself. What is the value of power if the world beneath our feet is collapsing?
The lion does not stand above the planet as a conqueror. It stands upon it, dependent on its stability, just like every other living being.
Through this series, I use animals as symbolic voices to communicate what human beings often fail to see: our survival is inseparable from the survival of the world we are destroying.
Technique
Mixed media sculpture, resin, 24-karat gold leaf and burnt wood.
Dimensions
Approximately 15 × 10 × 17 cm
(Base width: 10 cm)
Edition
No. 5 of 300
Authenticity
Original sculpture by Sonny Insinna, part of the Balance sculptural series.

Balance #3 is conceived as both a sculptural object and a symbolic statement. The combination of resin, gold and burnt wood creates a dialogue between fragility and resistance, destruction and transformation.
