About the painting:
This vibrant canvas painting depicts a portrait of a Japanese woman, styled as a geisha or maiko, set against a colorful, stylized background filled with cherry blossoms (sakura). The woman is captured in a graceful left profile profile view. Her face is painted with traditional pale makeup, featuring subtle contouring, dark defined eyebrows, and bold red lips. Her black hair is styled into an elegant, high updo, secured and adorned with a prominent red and white flower hairpiece. She wears a striking, bright orange kimono decorated with yellow flowers and green leaves. It is paired with a blue patterned obi (sash) showing hints of floral details and wrapped with a textured red-and-white band. The backdrop consists of vertical geometric panels in vivid yellow, pink, and bright blue, resembling traditional Japanese shoji screens or sliding doors. In both the foreground and background, dark, twisting branches of a cherry blossom tree frame the scene, bursting with small pink and red sakura petals.T he piece combines a contemporary, graphic pop-art feel with traditional Japanese cultural themes.
About the artist:
My name is Corina Madalina Schröder. I was born in Timisoara, Romania, in 1969 and grew up in the Satu Mare region (Transylvania). I came to Germany at the age of 43. I lived and worked there in Bad Säckingen am Rhein until 2023. The direct proximity to the Swiss border, the central location in Europe and the diversity of the people there gave me many creative influences and so I painted in a very modern and lively way and was able to present my pictures in many exhibitions. (including Germany, Belgium, Italy and Switzerland).
In June 2023 I moved with my husband to beautiful, sunny Spain, to Benijofar, south of Alicante. Here, strongly influenced by the wonderful sea, the great light, the friendliness of the people and the Mediterranean atmosphere, my passion for painting received new impulses.
I love painting. Even as a child, I was fascinated by using pens and brushes. I always went forward courageously, learned a lot and my artistic talent was born into me through my mother, who was a painter and art teacher. So I started not only painting but also creating all sorts of things. Be it sewing, knitting and modeling with clay. I love individual design and today especially expressive painting.
Especially in today's fast-paced times, where people are quick to evaluate and harshly comment, I find it particularly important to be able to calmly and calmly indulge in the joy of one's own creativity. Without “right or wrong” but just completely ME...
Since the beginning, my works have been exhibited in several german and international exhibitions, art salons and galleries, such as: Brugge, Madrid, Venice, Bucarest, Basel, London, Paris etc...
