William Sansom (1912–1976) era un romanziere e scrittore di racconti britannico. 'The Equilibriad' è una novella insolita in stile Kafkaesque su un uomo che si sveglia una mattina scoprendo di aver perso l'equilibrio del corpo, capace di camminare solo a un angolo di 45 gradi.

Il libro è illustrato con cinque tavole a piena pagina tratte da disegni dell'artista britannico Lucian Freud (1922-2011), nipote di Sigmund Freud. Nel 1944, da giovane artista, Freud mostrava già la sua eccezionale maestria nel disegno nelle illustrazioni per la raccolta poetica di Nicholas Moore, 'The Glass Tower' (PL Poetry London Edition).
