"Located in Higashiyama-ku, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture, it is a temple of the Kennin-ji school of Rinzai Zen Buddhism, with its formal name being Kōdai-jushō-zen-ji.

Its main characteristics and history are as follows:

Established by Kita no Mandokoro (Nene), the lawful wife of Toyotomi Hideyoshi: In 1601 (Keichō 6), Nene (who took the Buddhist name Kōdai-in upon becoming a nun) built it to pray for the soul of her husband, Toyotomi Hideyoshi."
