Rare set of three vintage scientific relief teaching charts produced by RICO, Firenze (Florence), Italy, dating from the 1960s–1970s.
The lot belongs to the “Collana Plastici Scientifici”, a series of educational models created for the visual teaching of anatomy and natural sciences.
The set consists of three different relief charts:
- 2 “Il Corpo Umano” (The Human Body) charts, illustrating human anatomy through detailed three-dimensional representations, including the skeleton, muscular system, digestive and respiratory systems, teeth and the mechanism of swallowing.
- 1 “Botanica” (Botany) chart, dedicated to fruits, infructescences and seeds, with numerous botanical specimens and cross-sections represented in relief.
What makes this set particularly attractive is the survival of the original RICO presentation/protective packaging, with the period printed headers and multilingual wording. The transparent protective sleeves are also still present and show the wrinkles, folds and signs of age visible in the photographs.
The anatomical and botanical elements are moulded in relief, giving the charts a striking three-dimensional appearance. The combination of scientific illustration, typography and educational design makes them interesting not only as historical teaching material, but also as distinctive vintage decorative objects for a study, medical practice, cabinet of curiosities or collection of scientific memorabilia.
The charts retain their original vintage appearance, including age-related marks, discoloration, patina and wear to the packaging and materials. No attempt has been made to restore or modernise them.
