With this work, part of the Sono l’oro series, Sonny Insinna explores the profound relationship between the human figure, the preciousness of material, and the fragility of our contemporary history.
The painting depicts an intense close-up of the upper part of an aviator’s face, whose vigilant gaze emerges through historic flight goggles. The golden details of the goggles engage in dialogue with the broad gold leaf surface occupying the lower half of the composition, creating a clear dividing line and giving the image a strong symbolic and suspended quality.
The horizon line becomes a threshold: above it, the gaze of the human being and the ability to observe; below it, a golden surface that may evoke an undefined space, memory, silence, or what remains concealed. Gold is therefore not merely a symbol of preciousness, but becomes a conceptual material — a light that both interrupts and preserves the image.
A key element of the work is the ornately crafted and partially burnt frame, treated by the artist as an integral part of the composition. The wood marked by fire introduces a direct reference to the precariousness of life and the conflicts that surround us, contrasting with the luminosity of the gold.
Through the Sono l’oro series, the artist uses precious material not as mere ornament, but as a trace of light resisting darkness. The work thus becomes a reflection on memory, resilience, and the fragments of humanity suspended between what we have witnessed and what we still have yet to understand.

Attivo dal 1998, Sonny Insinna si forma al Liceo Artistico Almeyda e si laurea in Pittura (I° e II° livello) presso l’Accademia di Belle Arti di Palermo. Le sue opere sono presenti in collezioni pubbliche e musei,
Ha esposto in numerosi contesti istituzionali in Italia e all’estero.
Nel 2011 fonda la Libera Scuola delle Arti Visive “Mialò Art”. Nel 2024 pubblica il manuale Colori in Equilibrio.
Da anni concentra la sua ricerca sui linguaggi dell’arte contemporanea, con particolare attenzione alla figurazione e alla dimensione simbolica.
