Original Working Publication Artwork – The Wonderful World of Disney Annual 1981, Page 56 – Winnie the Pooh, Piglet and Owl
Offered here is an original working publication illustration associated with The Wonderful World of Disney Annual 1981, corresponding to the illustration published on page 56.
The original artwork board retains a particularly interesting group of handwritten editorial and prepress annotations, including the publication title, page number, reproduction measurements, colour instructions, and layout/crop guides used during preparation of the illustration for printing.
These surviving working notes have been preserved together with the original illustration and provide a direct record of the traditional publishing process used in the production of illustrated books and annuals during this period.
This is not a print, reproduction, limited-edition copy or modern decorative piece. It is an original hand-produced working illustration connected with the preparation of The Wonderful World of Disney Annual 1981. The handwritten references “The Wonderful World of Disney Annual 1981” and “Page 56” remain visible on the artwork itself.
Particularly noteworthy are the surviving production markings surrounding the image. These include handwritten page information, measurements and working instructions relating to the preparation and reproduction of the artwork. Rather than having been removed or concealed, these annotations remain part of the piece and offer collectors an unusually revealing look at the practical process behind vintage illustrated publishing.
The illustration features three classic characters from the Hundred Acre Wood: Winnie the Pooh, Piglet and Owl. Pooh is shown presenting an illustrated basket/image to Owl while Piglet looks on, creating a charming narrative composition involving three of the best-known characters associated with Winnie the Pooh.
Unlike commercially produced Disney prints or later collectible artwork, this is an individual original working illustration. The combination of the original image and its surviving production annotations makes the piece particularly interesting to collectors of Disneyana, Winnie the Pooh, original illustration art and vintage publishing material.
Dating from 1981, the artwork has now survived for more than four decades and retains the character, working marks and signs of use expected from original publication artwork of this age.
Important: this is original publication illustration artwork and not an animation production cel. No attribution to an individual illustrator is being made, as the artist has not been conclusively identified.
The artwork is currently presented in a frame. Condition is good considering its age, with expected age-related marks and evidence of handling associated with its original working use. Please examine all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description and condition report.
A distinctive surviving example of vintage Winnie the Pooh publication artwork, made especially interesting by the preservation of its original editorial and production annotations.
A copy of The Wonderful World of Disney Annual 1981 is included with the lot, allowing the original artwork to be compared directly with its published appearance on page 56.
