The painting depicts the Annunciation according to traditional iconography. The Virgin, kneeling at the prie-dieu with an open book, places her hand on her breast as a sign of acceptance and turns her gaze towards the Archangel Gabriel. The angel, suspended on a cloud, holds the lily and points upwards, where the dove of the Holy Spirit emerges in a golden light among cherub heads. In the left foreground is the work basket with a white cloth, a domestic element evoking Mary’s daily life. The composition establishes a clear diagonal between the shadowed interior and the luminous heavenly opening. The handling is quick and textured in the clouds, more careful in the faces and drapery.
