SAMIA KERKENI — OCEANIC PULSE, 2022
Original Acrylic Pouring with Metallic Pigments on Canvas — 24 × 20 cm — Unique Work
THE ARTWORK
In Oceanic Pulse, Samia Kerkeni condenses the movement and vitality of the sea into an intimate abstract composition of turquoise, deep teal, luminous white and metallic pigments.
Rounded cellular formations gather along irregular contours, suggesting the meeting of water, mineral matter and living structures. White currents weave between the denser blue-green areas, opening luminous channels through the painted surface.
Dark accents and muted earthy tones introduce depth, while delicate pale networks travel through the interiors of individual cells. The metallic pigments respond subtly to changing light, revealing variations that cannot be fully captured through photography.
MOVEMENT AT SEVERAL SCALES
The composition offers a different experience according to viewing distance.
From afar, its broader movements may evoke ocean currents, foam or an aerial view of a changing coastline. Closer observation reveals branching lines, small pools of colour and intricate transitions between neighbouring formations.
The visible weave of the canvas introduces an additional rhythm beneath the fluid paint, reinforcing the dialogue between controlled composition and the spontaneous movement of pigment.
The title Oceanic Pulse describes this continuous visual energy: repetition, variation and movement spreading across the surface like the living rhythm of water.
A UNIQUE FLUID COMPOSITION
Created through acrylic pouring, the artwork combines artistic intention with the natural behaviour of liquid material.
Differences in pigment density, movement and drying create organic formations that cannot be reproduced identically. Every cell, contour and transition belongs exclusively to this original painting.
Its compact format encourages close and contemplative viewing, making the work particularly rich in detail despite its intimate dimensions.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Samia Kerkeni is a contemporary artist, doctor and researcher whose practice explores matter, colour, movement and light.
Her scientific background brings a spirit of observation and experimentation to her creative process. Inspired by oceans, invisible currents, mineral formations and the metamorphosis of natural matter, she creates abstract compositions in which pigment becomes an emotional language.
Working through successive layers and controlled fluid movements, Kerkeni combines technical precision with unpredictability. Her paintings preserve the physical memory of their creation while leaving each viewer free to discover a personal landscape within them.
