One large and thick quarto with xiv + 398 pages and 100 leaves of plates, each coloured and numbered and placed on tabs. Some editions had a smaller number of coloured plates which were unnumbered. This copy has many of the chromolithographs with gum arabic, applied by hand.
Benjamin Anger (1838-1908), surgeon and prospector for the Hospitals of Paris, deals here mainly with dislocations and fractures (shoulder, arm, elbow, wrist, jawbone, hip, etc.). With a preface by the surgeon Velpeau (1795-1867) on the progress of surgery at the time.
The work deals principally with bone dislocations and fractures.
In contemporary half red sheepskin, with gilt decoration. The plates are excellent (and printed on thick and heavy card, there is some occasional scattered foxing, principally to some text pages) This is a very bulky item; it is also scarce!
