Tanzanite is a variety of zoisite; it was discovered in early January 1967 in northern Tanzania at the foot of the Merelani Hills near the city of Arusha. Its most common use is in jewelery and it is highly regarded for its fantastic purplish-blue colour. Lately, green-colored tanzanites (or more correctly, zoisites) are also making their mark on the market. This particular cushion-cut gemstone spectacularly encompasses both colors; this characteristic, combined with the exceptional transparency makes it a truly unique gem. Also this kind of feature it's an indication that the stone has not been heat treated.
