Matthijs Homs - Artist Statement: Through my artworks I explore and touch the boundaries between surface and depth, structure and spontaneity, dream and reality, nature and culture, self and other and past present and future. Each piece I create is like an artifact of a lost civilization from an imagined history; a relic from a ritual that never took place in a dreamscape where the boundaries between fact and fiction seem to dissolve. Driven by curiosity I engage with naturally and culturally charged materials and concepts. Accompanying and guiding them through alchemical processes I invoke a playground where space opens up for beauty, enchantment and contemplation on inner connection and silence.
