Handwritten Coptic bible / prayer book - Ethiopia, 19th century - 217 pp. - The 12 quires are bound between two wooden boards - 15 × 10 × 4.5 cm     

Condition: There are a few holes in the goatskin leaves, probably contemporary. The binding is in good condition. In the centre the bible has water damage.

This exceptional Bible is written in Gheez, a language that goes back to 3000 years BC. The entire Bible was translated from Greek into the Gheez language in the 5th century. It is written and painted on sheets of goatskin.
