Intarsia is a type of wood inlay.

This technique comprises of inlaying a solid surface with pieces of wood. Firstly, material is removed from the surface which is then inlaid with wood, (precious) stone, or metal. By sanding and/or grinding, the surface is then smoothed.
In the Netherlands a popular technique in the 16th and 17th centuries, in which the intarsia was mostly made of wood.

Often used as a jewellery box

dimensions; small model l 16 cm x width 10.5 cm and H 6 cm.
slightly larger model, l 18.3 cm, br. 12 cm and h 5 cm.

both boxes are in a neat condition, the small one is the most beautiful (least signs of wear, see the photos)
