Item Description
This cylindrical vase showcases a captivating blend of earthy tones and flowing glazes characteristic of mid-century Japanese studio pottery. The piece features a distinctive two-tone glaze application: a warm peachy-beige lower body with horizontal wheel-thrown texture lines, transitioning dramatically into a dripping blue-green ash glaze at the shoulder and neck.
The upper section is adorned with four decorative protrusions that cascade with the flowing glaze, creating an organic, naturalistic effect. The rim is finished with a rich blue-green glaze that pools beautifully in the recessed areas, demonstrating skilled glaze control. The interior shows a dark tenmoku-style glaze with amber flashes, adding depth and visual interest.
The cylindrical form with its gently tapering neck represents a classic Japanese vase shape, likely intended for ikebana (flower arrangement) or as a decorative object. The contrast between the rough, textured lower body and the glossy, flowing upper glazes creates a dynamic visual dialogue between earth and sky, stillness and movement.
