“Booth's gin Test Print” – London (photo taken in the 1960s)
By Michael Joseph
Swinging London with a wink.
Shot in the 1960s, Booth's Gin is a sharp, stylish glimpse into the playful glamour of the era. Two figures lounge theatrically against a backdrop of armour and shields — high fashion colliding with historical display. A bottle and tray sit casually in the foreground, while metallic boots and bold styling anchor the image firmly in its time.
Michael Joseph captures not only the look of the decade, but its attitude — irreverent, confident, slightly decadent. The juxtaposition of polished medieval armour and modern pose creates a delicious tension between tradition and rebellion. London becomes less a location and more a mood: affluent, eccentric, fashion-forward.
Rendered in strong black and white, the print has excellent contrast and depth, with crisp detail and rich shadow. The composition is deliberate yet relaxed — a fashion editorial feel with documentary immediacy.
Titled and signed to the mount:
Hand-signed by Michael Joseph.
Presentation: Elegantly set within a substantial ornate gilt frame with black mount (frame included unless otherwise requested - please note frame is slightly battered as seen in photos).
Mount Dimensions: 50cm high, 41,5cm wide, 6cm high
Condition: Vintage condition with character consistent with age; strong visual impact and clean signature.
Dispatch: Fully insured, tracked and signed delivery. Carefully packaged using conservation-grade materials.
A bold and witty piece of 1960s London culture — fashion, theatre and social commentary in one striking image.
This is a one-off historical piece. I take great care in the preservation, packaging and dispatch of every photograph I sell, ensuring it arrives safely and ready to be enjoyed for decades to come.
