Christian RUKEZA is a Congolese visual artist from Goma, a city in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo. A passionate self-taught artist, he has developed a unique artistic language through drawing, exploring profound themes related to the human experience, emotions, and contemporary narratives. His work is distinguished by a minimalist approach, mainly in black and white, using pencil and ink techniques. He seeks to capture the duality of human fragility and resilience while offering the viewer a space for reflection and introspection.

Inspired by his environment, personal experiences, and the social dynamics of his region, Christian draws on the cultural richness and complex history of his country to fuel his creativity. His art aims to transcend borders and establish a universal dialogue, where everyone can find themselves in his works. Christian aspires to share his creations on international platforms, highlighting African artistic diversity and the
power of visual expression as a tool for connection and transformation.

BACKGROUND

Christian RUKEZA began his artistic career in 2017 in Goma, where he joined an art house to develop his drawing skills. Eager to progress, he joined the Goma Cultural Center after two years, participating in several art workshops and events, including the famous Amani Festival.

EXPERIENCE AS AN ARTIST

Since the beginning of my artistic career in 2017 in Goma, I have evolved in various creative environments, perfecting my skills in pencil and ink drawing. My journey began in an art house where I acquired the essential basics, before joining the Goma Cultural Center, a place where I had the opportunity to participate in workshops and collaborate with other artists. In 2023, I broadened my artistic horizons
by participating in the Artist's Notebook workshop, and in 2024, I had the chance to be trained under the guidance of artist Fred EBAMI at the French Institute of Burundi (IFB).
These workshops were important stepping stones in diversifying my techniques and exploring new dimensions of my artistic practice. My commitment to the artistic community continues to grow through collaborations, exhibitions, and my constant desire to share my unique vision of the world.

INSPIRAÇÃO

Christian RUKEZA draws inspiration from human interactions, the complexity of emotions, and the cultural richness that surrounds him. An attentive observer, he draws on everyday life and social relationships to fuel his imagination. He also finds great inspiration in nature, Congolese and African traditions and stories in general, which he subtly incorporates into his work. His artistic vision is shaped by his desire to capture both the beauty and challenges of the world around him, while exploring universal themes such as the search for meaning and inner strength. ARTISTIC INTENTION
