In Darkest Africa (1890) is Henry M. Stanley’s own account of his last adventure on the African continent. At the turn of that century, the interior of the African continent was largely unknown to the American and European public. In 1888, Stanley led an expedition to come to the aid of Mehmed Emin Pasha.

A fascinating and illustrated travel classic in original bindings. The books are beautifully bound, designed and illustrated, with full-page plates, woodcut illustrations and maps. Published by Sampson Low, Marston, Searle, and Rivington, London (1890). Publisher’s original matching volumes in red cloth covers with gilt title and author lettering to the spines and to the front covers. Publishers black crest on back covers.

Faded red marks to the lower inner hinges of some pages, and occasional foxing marks on some pages. Clean text and bright illustrations (Please see pictures).
