Item Description
Offered for auction is a true centerpiece for any French Rock & Roll collection: a hand-signed, original 1964 French first mono pressing of Johnny Hallyday’s iconic live album Olympia 64.
This authentic mono edition (Philips B 77.987 L) captures the raw energy of Hallyday’s legendary residency at the Olympia in Paris. The album cover features a personal handwritten dedication and signature from the artist: “Pour Werner, Bises.”
What makes this copy even more special is its provenance. The album was signed after a live performance by Johnny Hallyday at the Casino Kursaal Oostende, where he performed together with Sylvie Vartan, who appeared as the opening act that evening.
My uncle personally attended this concert and had the opportunity to meet Johnny Hallyday backstage, where the artist kindly signed this very album. The LP is now being sold on behalf of my uncle, making this not just a signed record, but a piece of personal rock ’n roll history connected to a memorable live event.
Authenticity of this first edition is confirmed by the F. Richir printer mark on the sleeve and the green “Haute Fidélité Monorale” Philips labels. Backed by Joey and the Showmen, the performance includes explosive French adaptations of hits by The Beatles, Elvis Presley, and Chuck Berry.
Signed copies from this early “Yé-yé” era — especially with clear dedication and traceable provenance — are exceptionally rare and highly sought after by collectors worldwide.
