DESCRIPTION :
The museum director and art historian Dr. Friedhelm Häring describes the pictorial universe of Ralf Altrieth in this way:
"There is a lot of poetry in this painting, as in all the works of this artist. They are populated by narrative codes and fantastic tales. In this sense, the painterly poems of Ralf Altrieth are a pure childlike chant... But the most astonishing thing manifested in these canvases is a communicative tenderness for the states of mind of the human being."
In his paintings, Ralf Altrieth lets the forms arise and transform through the gesture, in a free and spontaneous movement. The figures often appear fugitive, as if hesitating between being and disappearing.
The image forms through superpositions, elements seem to float, respond to each other, intertwine, creating a living and open visual space.
The title is usually added afterward. It is meant to suggest a clue, a narrative dimension, poetic or sometimes simply humorous, never locking the image into a single interpretation.
An expressive work that immediately captures the eye and gradually reveals all its richness.
