The clock dates from the early 20th century (circa 1905–1915). The original mechanical movement is clearly signed with the Junghans eight-point star trademark with the letter “J”, a mark used by the company during this period. The clock is housed in a beautifully crafted solid oak case with rich carved decoration, turned columns and an architectural crest. The warm oak grain and impressive proportions make this clock a very decorative interior piece. With a height of almost one meter, it is a striking and elegant wall clock. The dial features an ornate brass center and decorative corner spandrels with Arabic numerals, protected by glass. The spring-driven Junghans movement has been cleaned and oiled and runs well. The clock strikes the hours and half hours on a spiral gong, producing a pleasant clear sound. This model represents a typical example of the decorative German wall clocks produced around 1900, when Junghans was one of the largest clock manufacturers in the world.
