Early 19th-Century French Lorraine Faience Casket, Dated 1823 This rectangular covered box is a fine example of 19th-century Lorraine faience (tin-glazed earthenware), marked by an old paper label on the base reading “Lorraine 1823.” The box is decorated in two colors: delicate camaieu rouge (crimson monochrome) for the figural and landscape scenes, and vibrant turquoise green for the rococo-style scroll and floral borders. The lid’s central scene shows an 18th-century couple fishing in a pastoral setting, while the sides feature smaller seascape vignettes. Standing on four shaped feet, the piece exhibits minor glaze wear and patina, reflecting its age and use over nearly 200 years. Dimensions appear to be approximately 17 cm in length (as shown in photos). Condition: overall fair condition with a chip as shown in the photos and some other used signs.
