About the Art
In this compelling portrait, past and present converge in a visual symphony of cultures, symbolism, and personal history. The face of a contemporary woman anchors the image — calm, powerful, and imbued with a timeless presence.
This work is framed, printed on Hahnemuhle fine art paper, dibond and ready to hung.
At top of her head unfolds a surreal landscape, inhabited by handmade creatures and forms that reference a rich tapestry of cultural influences. This upper world symbolizes both the inner world of the woman and the artist herself: a crossroads of traditions, memories, and stories that transcend generations.
Inspired by Baroque, fantasy, and cultural iconography, her imagery is both timeless and deeply personal.
She views femininity as a layered spectrum, from quiet harmony to strongly present.
Mariska spends a lot of time carefully constructing her sets, which also involves her other talents. She sketches with charcoal, works with gold, textiles, and is an excellent photo manipulator. All of her talents come together in every piece of work she creates.
