Toilet Water Dispenser with Brass Tap - Figur - Opalglas
Large French Opaline Glass Toilet Water Dispenser with Brass Tap – Hand-Painted Floral Decoration – c. 1890–1910
Description
A beautiful and unusual French opaline glass toilet water dispenser, dating from the late 19th to the early 20th century (circa 1890–1910).
This elegant piece is crafted in white opaline glass and delicately hand-painted with floral decoration in soft shades of pink, burgundy and green. The body is mounted with its original satin-finished metal bands and retains the original brass tap as well as the original ground opaline stopper.
Its distinctive barrel-shaped form gives the appearance of an oversized perfume bottle. However, due to its generous size, it was most likely intended as a toilet water or scented water dispenser, traditionally displayed on a dressing table or washstand for dispensing eau de Cologne, lavender water or other perfumed waters.
The narrow filling opening with its original ground stopper and the finely proportioned brass tap are characteristic of high-quality luxury toilette accessories from the period.
A highly decorative and uncommon collector's piece that combines fine opaline glass, delicate hand-painted decoration and elegant period craftsmanship.
Condition
Very good antique condition.
The original stopper, brass tap and metal mounts are present. Minor age-related wear and natural patina to the metal fittings, together with light signs of use consistent with age. The hand-painted decoration remains beautifully preserved.
Please examine all photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of the description.
