This is an auction of a very special piece of the history of Apple: one of the first release units of the second generation of the iPod touch, from 2008, still sealed in its genuine and never opened box.

The iPod touch 2G was announced to the world by Steve Jobs in the Apple Music Event of September 2008, and was exactly in this month when this unit was sold, according to its serial number 1A839QGG201. You can view Steve Jobs introducing the iPod touch 2G on this YouTube video:

This unit is also very special because it was personalized in the factory of Apple in 2008. If you bought the iPod touch from the Apple Online Store, you could order a laser engraving service of a custom message written on the rear surface of the iPod, that in this generation was made of stainless steel. The majority of first release units of the iPod touch 2G were of the model MB528LL/A. This one is PB529LL/A because it is an one-off personalized unit. Nobody knows which message was engraved on it in September 2008, ordered by the original customer. This is an interesting mystery that makes this unit more special and collectible!

The iPod touch 2G brought the design of the iPhone 3G and its software iPhone OS 2.0 (also called iOS 2) to the iPod world, giving the users the possibility of downloading a lot of applications, games, music, movies, documents and more contents from the App Store and iTunes, apart from using Safari, Mail, YouTube, Calendar, Maps, Weather, Calculator, Notes and most of the functions that the first iPhones included, with a declared battery duration of up to 36 hours of video and 6 hours of audio. The iPod touch 2G was described in the official website of Apple as: “The funnest iPod ever. Millions of songs. Thousands of movies. Hundreds of games. The new iPod touch”.

Now, 16 years later from the release of the iPod touch 2G, you have the chance of bidding for this completely new unit, still in its sealed and never opened box. It is a vintage electronics collectible, very hard to find, specially if it is a personalized unit like this and one of the first units sold in the first month of the release in September 2008.
