AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Great Igbo helmet. The Igbo are an ethnic group from the western coast of Africa in present-day Nigeria. They are very well known and interesting for their helmets.

Of large size, with a perfect overall square composition (among the many typologies that exist). Very worked and carefully detailed.

Good artistic quality as a sculpture. Obvious old age. I think about 40 years.

- Size: 45 cm x 45 cm x 20 cm (width).

- Weight without pedestal: 1.2 kg

- Weight of the iron pedestal: 1.5 kg

Total: 2.7 kg.

With perfect symmetry and very baroque in the details and embellishments. Of all kinds of shapes and decorative friezes.

As usual the wood is fragile and light. Worn by the conservation conditions provided by the dancers from year to year. Despite that there are no flaws, only some very small ones that do not affect the overall piece.

This piece surely has antiquity, as I bought it 20 years ago. And to that one must add the 20 years that were presumed. The good workmanship also supports the antiquity.

It comes with a very heavy iron pedestal in the shape of a wedge. Made specifically to attach to the mask of the front part. And by its weight it stably and elegantly supports the entire helmet.

Shipped with UPS insured service.
