Description from the seller
1962–1966, also known as the Red Album, is a compilation album of hits by the English rock band The Beatles from the years indicated in the title.
The double LP was released in 1973 alongside its 1967-1970 counterpart (the "Blue Album") and reached number 3 in the UK.
In the United States, it topped the Cash Box Albums chart and peaked at number 3 on the Billboard Top LPs & Tapes chart while reaching the top spot in 1967–1970.
The album was re-released on CD in September 1993 and charted at number 3 in the UK.
The album was initiated by Apple Records executive Allen Klein shortly before he was fired from his position.
Although the group found success with cover versions of songs, most notably "Twist and Shout", 1962-1966 only contains songs composed by the Beatles.
As with 1967–1970, the compilation was created by Apple and EMI/Capitol Records in response to a bootleg collection entitled Alpha Omega that had been sold on television the previous year.
Print advertising for the two records made a point of declaring them the “only authorized Beatles collection.”
