AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Francisco de Quevedo y Villegas,
The Visions of Dom Francisco de Quevedo Villegas, Knight of the Order of Saint James.
Augmented from the reformed Hell, translated from Spanish by Sieur de la Geneste.
Lyon, at César Chappuis's, rue Belle-Cordière, 1686.
12mo. Printed title, translator's warning, tables of Visions and contents, complete text of the Visions up to the final page bearing "END".

Contemporary full brown calf binding, spine with raised bands decorated with gilt fleurons. Binding very worn with losses at the foot of the spine, weakened joints, rubbing and wear. Interior complete but in aged condition: browned paper, stains and foxing, margins sometimes short, creases and soiling consistent with use, no missing text.

Classic French translation of the famous Sueños de Quevedo, a great baroque satire against human vices, social corruption and the flaws of professions, in an allegorical descent into hell.
A 17th-century Lyon edition, less common than Parisian printings, offered here in its original, unrestored state.
