Description from the seller

Plaster mythological statue depicting a man's head and a bucranium, a decorative element for the Cult of the Mother Goddess.

On one side, a young hunter; on the other side, the bucranio, or ox skull, present in Roman monuments and Greek sacred contexts. The bucranio was already used in Mesopotamian ceramics of the 4th millennium BC and in Egyptian funerary painting of the 2nd millennium BC.

The statue was made using the lost wax casting method.

During the past two centuries, the foundries experienced a period of remarkable flourishing.
Their subjects, in addition to being purchased by collectors, were also bought by travelers as luxury souvenirs.

The subject is the second of a series of three conducted at the time.

Dimensions: 48x23x24cm
Origin: Italy
Period: end of the 20th century
